Back to School Edition! July 2025

Welcome Back Owls!

I’m so excited to welcome you to Year 3 at SPS! Last year was filled with so many meaningful moments as we continued to grow together as a school community. Whether you’re returning or joining us for the first time, we are so glad you’re here and can’t wait to kick off another incredible year of learning and connection.

If you’re new to SPS—welcome! You can expect a monthly edition of The Owlette Gazette to arrive around the first of each month, filled with all the important updates you need to stay in the loop. During busy months (like August), we may send additional updates to make sure you have the most current information. Please ensure your contact details are up to date, and be sure to follow us on Facebook to stay connected.

This edition of the Owlette Gazette is packed with important back-to-school information, including:

  • Arrival and dismissal procedures

  • A Dismissal Survey we kindly ask you to complete before Orientation

  • Our school supply list

  • Breakfast and lunch details

  • Transportation information

  • And so much more!

We recommend setting aside a few minutes to read through it all—this one is a bit longer than usual, but future newsletters will be more concise.

We can't wait to see you at Orientation on August 8th. Until then, enjoy the rest of your summer and get ready for a wonderful year ahead!

With gratitude,
Mrs. Outman

Arrival Information

Let’s start the year safely and smoothly!

🕗 School Hours:
Classes begin at 8:30 AM and end at 2:42 PM.

🍽️ Breakfast & Early Arrival:
The cafeteria opens at 8:00 AM for breakfast. Students arriving at this time should enter through the middle front doors. For safety, all other exterior doors will remain locked until 8:15 AM.

🔔 General Arrival:
At 8:15 AM, the first bell will ring and all scholars may enter the building and go directly to their homeroom class.

👣 First Days & Independence:
Families are welcome to walk their scholars to class on the first two days of school only. Beginning August 13th, we’ll celebrate SPS Independence Day—students will confidently walk to class on their own from the entry doors.

🚫 Important Safety Reminder:
Please do not drop off students before 8:00 AM unless they are eating breakfast. For all other students, arrival begins at 8:15 AM. There is no supervision before 8:00 AM, which creates a safety concern. If you need early morning care, several local daycares offer before-school programs and transportation.

Dismissal Procedures

As we launch into a new school year, we need your help to ensure a safe and efficient dismissal process for all scholars. With over 700 students on campus, our goal is to complete dismissal in under 20 minutes—and that takes teamwork!

Please take a moment to complete the Dismissal Survey so we can plan accordingly and keep your child safe every step of the way. Your prompt response is greatly appreciated.

Once submitted, be sure to review the dismissal procedures below for your scholar’s designated area. Thank you for being a vital part of a safe and successful start!

Be sure to complete this DISMISSAL SURVEY prior to Orientation.

Parent Pick Up Procedures

Times of scholar dismissal from the classroom:

2:38 Kindergarten only

2:42 K & 1st grade and siblings,

2:45 2nd -6th grade

For parents using our Parent Pick Up line please follow these procedures:

  • Kindergarten ONLY parents: Please arrive prior to 2:25 and line up in the lane closest to the building. After 2:30, you will be in line with parents of all grades and siblings.

  • All other grades and sibling parents: Please arrive at 2:30 or later. If you are an early arriver (2:30), line up in the lane farthest from the building. There is a picture below for reference.

  • Display your car tag from your rearview mirror. (You will receive these at Orientation)

  • There will be someone who calls your scholar(s) to designated poles. Please stay in your car.

  • Adults will load the cars with help from our safety patrols on the inside lane.

  • Once your scholar is loaded in your vehicle, turn on your hazard lights. This will let us know you have your child and are ready to leave campus.

Parent Pick Up Diagram

Willow Springs Walkers/Bikers

For our Willow Springs Walkers, please use the sidewalk through Lawton Place Cul-de-sac to access the crosswalk in front of our school. Parents will need to stay at the intersection of 315 and our entrance during dismissal. Coming up to the school will cause unsafe conditions as our employees walk the scholars to the intersection. You can meet them prior to crossing the street.

***Severe Weather Dismissal Procedures***

When we experience a severe weather event that includes lightning, we are required to hold walkers and bikers for 30 minutes after the last lightning strike if the weather is still unstable. If there is a passing storm and the weather clears, usually we will release scholars as soon as it is safe. Our first priority is scholar safety. At the beginning of our severe weather dismissal, if we are able to do so, we will send out a parent link message to alert you. We also post information to Facebook. We have experienced a lightning strike in the past that disabled our internet and phones. Power outages may also affect this ability.

Pick-Up Information

Parent Pick-Up - We will most likely need to go down to a single lane for Severe Weather Dismissal. There will be a staff member who calls for your child. Please stay in your car.

Walkers/Bikers - Please wait at the gate and a staff member will call for your child.

Buses - Buses will be released as soon as it is safe to do so.

SPS Rainy Day Dismissal - During heavy rain where lightning isn’t present, we will follow the above procedures, but hold walkers and bikers until the rain is down to a slight drizzle.
