Message from Principal Reed |
Dear Families, As we approach the upcoming holiday, I want to wish you all a meaningful Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
In our classrooms, we hope to promote Dr. King’s message of kindness, courage, and community. This Monday is more than just a day away from school; it is an invitation to reflect on his dream of equality and the small ways we can all make our world a better place. Whether you spend the day volunteering, sharing stories with your children, or simply enjoying time together, we hope it is a day filled with peace and inspiration.
This week, we are excited to celebrate our Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Brandy Tichinel, and our School-Related Employee of the Year, Mrs. Rhonda Samples, at the Clay County Apple Awards on Thursday, January 22. Our CHE families are invited to join us at the Thrasher-Horne to honor these amazing educators! We look forward to seeing our students back on Tuesday, ready to continue learning and growing together. Enjoy your long weekend, Bulldogs! Sincerely,
Adele Reed |

MidYear State Assessments: Complete! |
State testing in grades K-6 is now complete, and our teachers will be collaborating to analyze student performance and design instruction to prepare students for end of year mastery. Parents may access their child's assessment scores in ParentVue or directly at the FLOE Family Portal. Remember that you'll need your child's 6-character access code to view scores. The access code is in your ParentVue account, under "Student Information."
Alternatively, you can reach out to your child's teacher for testing information. We are extremely proud of the performance and growth of our students on their midyear assessments! |

Celebrate Literacy Week: January 26-30 |
We are excited about this year's celebration of literacy across the state and especially right here in Clay Hill during Celebrate Literacy Week 2026! This year's theme is "Read, White, and Blue: Celebrating 250 Chapters of America." Our Media Specialist, Ms. Allyson Lowans, with support from our Literacy Leadership Team, has developed a week of amazing opportunities to engage with reading! We encourage all our families to get involved and read together to promote literacy and learning!
Get Caught Reading, create a Tissue Box Character Project, or try the Literacy Week Scavenger Hunt! During Celebrate Literacy Week. We can't wait to engage in great reading experiences together! Instructions for these and other activities will be sent your way next week!
If you're looking for high-quality text selections, consider one or more of the titles below from the Florida B.E.S.T. Standards. The state's sample list of texts includes selections ranging from the Classical Period of ancient Greece and Rome to contemporary texts, representing a full spectrum of genres: classic literature, folktales, poetry, satire, memoirs, essays, speeches, plays, narratives, treatises, founding documents, and histories. They have been selected to provide
students with background knowledge in topics covered by other content areas, helping students to build the vocabulary and schema that will help them be successful in all of their academic endeavors. |
