Message from Principal Reed

Dear Families,

This month, our school is proud to recognize Black History Month as students reflect on the vital contributions and heritage of African Americans through special initiatives.  Our students are encouraged to participate in the FL Dept. of Education and Volunteer Florida Black History Month Art and Student Essay contests. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Black History.”  Parents and students are also invited to nominate an educator for the Black History Month Excellence in Education Award. Submissions for all contests are due by Feb 9, 2026. More information can be found in the linked document below.

To keep the momentum of learning going, our Book Fair is officially open for the next two weeks—we can’t wait to see our students discover their next favorite story!

Looking ahead, please check your portals next Friday when Interim Reports become available to review your child’s mid-quarter progress. Finally, it is National School Counseling Week, and we want to extend our deepest gratitude to Mrs. Lestrange for her unwavering support of our students' well-being. We truly appreciate her dedication to making our school a supportive environment for everyone. Thank you for your continued partnership and for making our school community so vibrant!

Elementary All-County Chorus SUCCESS!

What a BRILLIANT performance our All-County Chorus Members delivered at Friday evening's annual event at the Thrasher-Horne. We were proud and honored to have Lacey, Trace, Bailey, Olivia, Hunter, Cooper, and Kessa represent Clay Hill Elementary. We are grateful to Mr. Johns for his outstanding efforts in preparing the students for this special event! Congratulations to all!

Support the CHE Track Team with a Team Shirt!

Our scholar-athletes have been working so hard over the last few weeks to train and hone their times in a variety of skills and events! Their meet will take place on Saturday, February 21, from 8-12 pm at Middleburg High School. If you would like to support the purchase of team snacks and awards, as well as offset the school's cost of shirts to team members, please click the image below to visit MySchoolBucks to purchase a shirt for yourself, or family and friends! Thank you for your help!

We Love our School Counselor, Paula Lestrange!

National School Counseling Week is a time to recognize and highlight the vital role school counselors play in supporting student success. This year’s theme, “School Counselors Amplify Student Success,” emphasizes how counselors help remove barriers to learning while promoting academic achievement, career readiness, and social-emotional well-being for all students. Clay Hill Elementary is blessed to benefit from the skill and service of our School Counselor, Paula Lestrange, who provides the highest levels of support for our students, families, and staff. Please join us in showing our gratitude for her this week! Thank you, Mrs. Lestrange, for all you do!

The Book Fair is HERE!

We are excited to offer a wide variety of texts to ignite our students' love of reading at this year's Scholastic Book Fair! Please keep in mind that Clay County District Schools uses an outside vendor to supply the materials for the book fair.  Both from a reading level and subject content, the appropriateness of individual titles are unique to each child’s ability and family values. Books in the book fair may contain content that is not appropriate for all ages.  Therefore, there is an opportunity for parents to preview the book fair contents online at https://preview.scholasticbookfairs.com/location/grid.

In addition, we will be hosting a family night where parents and guardians can bring their child(ren) to review, select, and purchase books. Our school will hold this event after the K-3rd grade Valentines Dance on February 6th at 4:00 - 5:00 PM.

Students will have the opportunity to visit the book fair during their media resource if they do not have an opt out form on file and have money that is designated for the book fair.  If you do not wish for your child to participate in the book fair during the school day, please complete the opt-out form and return it to your child’s homeroom teacher. The opt out form is linked here and was also sent home last week.

As titles vary and may not represent the content you wish for your child to consume, we encourage you to review the book fair materials your child purchases.  Our school is always willing to provide a refund or exchange for any material that is bought.

If you have any questions, please reach out to me or the school’s media specialist, Allyson Lowans, at 904-336-0775, ext. 60791.

Principals Books Clubs: Quarter 3
